A core objective of a learner is to generalise from its experience. Algorithms are using historical information to make a prediction about the future. Machine learning is a scoring system that scores the probability of what you are about to do. Systems which are trained on datasets collected with biases may exhibit these biases upon use, thus digitising cultural prejudices. In linguistics, a corpus (plural corpora) or text corpus is a language resource consisting of a large and structured set of texts. Because human languages contain biases, machines trained on language corpora will necessarily also learn these biases. Responsible collection of data and documentation of algorithmic rules used by a system thus is a critical part of machine learning. Researchers’ sense of responsibility for accurately capturing information will support the development of trustworthy research. Normative ethics is the study of ethical action. The general field of ethics, along with aesthetics, concerns matters of value, and thus comprises the branch of philosophy called axiology, which is also closely related to value theory and meta-ethics. In the social sciences, value theory involves various approaches that examine how, why, and to what degree humans value things and whether the object or subject of valuing is a person, idea, object, or anything else.
